Complete Cricket Bat Preparation

Higher grade (typically 3rd, 2nd and 1st grade) English Willow cricket bats will require thorough preparation prior to first use. This is because they are a softer timber, ultimately making them more prone to cracks and breaks. However, it is important to note that cricket bats are a natural product, and they perform the difficult task of hitting a small rock disguised as a cricket ball. This means that they WILL crack - and it's not a matter of IF, but WHEN. When this occurs, it is usually the sign of general wear and tear. At Keith Dudgeon Cricket Specialists, we offer a Complete Cricket Bat Preparation, which is completed in approximately 4-5 business days after receiving your bat.

The process includes:

     - Oiling of the face, edges and back

     - Rolling and honing of the edges and toe

     - Knocking in of the middle of the face (by machines)

     - Knocking in of the edges and toe (by hand)

     - Machine pressing of the face to complete the process

The prices for this process are as follows:

     - $25 for bats purchased from KD Cricket

     - $55 for bats purchased elsewhere

If you decide to complete this process yourself at home, the bat should be oiled once a day for at least 4 days, followed by (anywhere up to) 8 hours of knocking in using a wooden mallet - these can be purchased from our website for $16. When knocking in, it is crucial to focus your attention towards the more vulnerable areas - the toe and edges - with slightly less emphasis on the middle of the bat. This knocking in process can become quite a tedious task and more importantly, if it is not done properly, you may void your new bat's warranty. Our Complete Cricket Bat Preparation is guaranteed to satisfy the warranty requirements of your new bat, giving you piece of mind that your new pride and joy has received the best initial preparation that it can possibly receive.

Once your bat has had the Complete Cricket Bat Preparation service, you should also consider having Extra-Tec Fitted, which permits approximately 12 months maintenance-free use, and improved longevity out of your bat.
